As a matter of fact, people wanted to get their hands on Windows 7 even before it was rolled out to the stores. Managing Director of Amazon UK, Brian McBride said back in October that Windows 7 was the “the biggest grossing pre-order product of all-time at Amazon.co.uk, and demand is still going strong.”
You might remember that back in January, Craig Beilinson, Director of Marketing with Microsoft’s Entertainment and Devices Division, said Windows 7 is “by far the fastest selling operating system in history.” At the time he did not come with some concrete figures – Microsoft did that later in the month when it announced that it sold more than 60 million Windows 7 licenses in Q2 (which ended in December). Microsoft also announced that its revenue grew to $19.02 billion and that profits soared by 60% to $6.66 billion.
Earlier this week, at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media & Telecom Conference Microsoft presented further proof that Windows 7 is indeed the fastest selling operating system. Microsoft’s Chief Financial Officer Peter Klein announced that more than 90 million Windows 7 licenses have been sold.
“That's a lot of Windows 7. We're humbled and excited that people are responding so positively to Windows 7 - our customers have made it the fastest selling operating system in history,” commented Windows Communications Manager with Microsoft, Brandon LeBlanc.
